My name is LaKenya Kopf. I am a Certified Virtual Tech Manager with over 17 years of expertise in transforming small businesses across various industries through innovative tech solutions. As the founder of Kopf Consulting, I have become a trusted partner for entrepreneurs and organizations seeking to optimize their tech stack and streamline their operations.
My passion lies in harnessing the power of technology to drive efficiency and growth. I have extensive experience encompassing a wide range of services, including CRM (Customer Relationship Management) implementations, Email Marketing Systems, WordPress website management, and implementation of automated sales funnels.

What made you want to start your own business?
The origin story of my entrepreneurial journey is becoming more common in the military world. As a military spouse, we were constantly moving every three years due to Permanent Change of Station (PCS) orders. While many companies claim they are open to hiring military spouses, most hesitate to invest in training new employees, knowing they will lose them when new orders come through. I needed something that could move with me, whether we were stateside or overseas. It initially started as a side hustle; however, as we welcomed children into our family, I enjoyed the flexibility of owning my own business. I was able to be present as a mother for my children while still working and contributing to the growth of my business. As my children have gotten older, I have had the pleasure of demonstrating hard work and being in a position to give back. When my youngest son starts telling me business ideas because he “wants to own a business like Mommy” one day, there is no greater drive than that.
What do you love the most about owning a business in Massachusetts?
I absolutely love the entrepreneurial spirit that thrives in Massachusetts. I have had the pleasure of attending numerous unforgettable conferences and hearing some of the most influential speakers. The abundance of resources, the ease of connections, and the vast assortment of networking groups offer more avenues than one could fathom. What amazes me is how many of these resources are free or available at a low cost. While I haven’t dipped the proverbial toe into grants, I have heard nothing but praise for the financial support available to those wanting to start a business here.
What are your favorite small businesses to support in Massachusetts?
I love to eat! For this reason, I prefer to find “Mom and Pop” eateries to try and recommend instead of mainstream restaurants. Usually, I am the taste tester. If I like it, I bring my family and tell absolutely everyone. It then becomes the “go-to” place to take out-of-town guests. Besides that, I really enjoy small businesses that cater to children, especially those focused on the arts.
What has been the biggest lesson you’ve learned throughout your career?
While I am not sure if it is the biggest, the most important lesson I have learned is that nothing is worth my mental well-being. At the start of most journeys, we are so focused on success that we are willing to put up with anything and anyone to onboard new clients. I quickly saw how much that chipped away at my motivation, my drive, and my sense of well-being. I learned very quickly that it was okay to say, “No, but,” to opportunities. No, I may not be the right fit for you, but this person may be able to help you. No, I cannot do what you are asking, but I am happy to do this. Once I learned the magical powers of “No, but,” I learned to love my business and what I do again.
If you weren’t in your current position, what would your next dream job be?
I absolutely love horses. One of the most peaceful jobs I have ever had was working on a horse farm. They are majestic creatures, and when they get to know you, they are like gigantic dogs! I remember pulling Meredith out of her stall, and she accidentally sidestepped, not realizing I was there. When I yelped and jumped to the side, she whipped her head around, and the look of concern nearly broke my heart! I had to pet her and reassure her I was okay before she started walking again and she wouldn’t leave my side. They are so loving and caring. On top of that, the serenity of the wide-open space is unparalleled. Nothing else in my life has come close to that experience.
When you’re not working, what activities do you enjoy?
Over the years, I have started to get back into reading. When my nose is not in a book, I enjoy yoga once a week and working out. For true recreational activity, I love archery. When my schedule allows, I take my bow to the range and shoot for about an hour while listening to music (with my headphone volume on low, or not at all if someone else is on the line – safety first!); the inner peace it gives me is priceless. One day, I hope to get back into horseback riding, but it’s not in the foreseeable future.
