Massachusetts Business Network Celebrates National Small Business Week 2026

May 6, 2026  |

National Small Business Week is an important moment to recognize the entrepreneurs, owners, and local teams that keep Massachusetts communities moving. Across the Commonwealth, small businesses do more than sell products and services. They create jobs, support local causes, activate downtowns, serve residents and visitors, and help shape the character of the places we call home.

No matter what region it is, Massachusetts small businesses are central to local economic life. Many are family-owned, independently operated, seasonal, community-rooted, or built around deep relationships with customers and neighbors.

To celebrate National Small Business Week 2026, Massachusetts Business Network created and published the 2026 Massachusetts Small Business Growth Kit, a free digital toolkit designed to give small business owners practical support during National Small Business Week and beyond.

The Growth Kit is co-presented by Distinctive Pergolas, with additional section sponsorship from Stargazer Creative, Mass Fleet Advisor, and Chickbook Creative.

A Practical Toolkit for Massachusetts Small Business Owners

The 2026 Massachusetts Small Business Growth Kit was created with a simple goal: give business owners resources they can actually use.

It focuses on five core areas of small business growth: Marketing & Visibility, Sales, Operations, Local Growth & Community Connection, and Resource Directory.

Marketing & Visibility

The Marketing & Visibility section helps business owners strengthen their message, show up more consistently, and promote their business with greater confidence.

It includes 6 Must-Have Markers for Memorable Marketing, a Brand Messaging Worksheet, a Business Story Prompt Sheet, a Social Media Content Calendar, a 30 Content Prompt List, an Email Newsletter Template, Customer Review Request Templates, a Local PR Pitch Template, and a Marketing Strategy Template.

For many small businesses, marketing can feel overwhelming because there are so many channels competing for attention. Owners may feel pressure to post more often, improve their website, send emails, collect reviews, pitch local media, and stay visible in their community, all while managing day-to-day operations.

These resources are designed to make marketing more approachable. They help owners clarify what they want to say, organize their content, tell their business story, ask customers for reviews, and plan visibility efforts with more intention.

Huge thanks to Stargazer Creative for sponsoring this bucket.

Sales

The Sales section gives business owners practical tools to turn interest into revenue, improve follow-up, and build stronger customer relationships.

It includes a Pricing Review Worksheet, Sales Outreach & Follow-Up Email Templates, a Lead Tracker, a Revenue Calendar, a 30 Sales Tactics List, a LinkedIn Guide, and 7 Steps for Growing Your Business Through Facebook Groups.

The Sales resources in the Growth Kit are designed to help owners create simple, repeatable habits around outreach, pricing, follow-up, relationship-building, and revenue planning. Instead of leaving sales activity to memory or chance, these tools give owners a more organized way to identify opportunities and move conversations forward.

Operations

The Operations section focuses on helping business owners stay organized, improve systems, and create more breathing room in the day-to-day work of running a business.

It includes a Weekly CEO Check-In Sheet, a 90-Day Business Planning Worksheet, 10 Things You Can Automate in Your Business Today, an SOP Template, a Time Audit & Delegation Worksheet, How to Prepare for Time Off in Your Business, and Top 5 Tools for Running Your Business Smoothly.

These resources help owners step back and look at how their business is running. They can use the tools to review priorities, plan the next 90 days, document repeatable tasks, identify what can be automated, decide what can be delegated, and prepare for time away from the business.

Local Growth & Community Connection

The Local Growth & Community Connection section helps business owners build visibility through relationships, partnerships, networking, and community engagement.

This section includes a Local Partnership Outreach Template, a Community Visibility Checklist, a Networking Follow-Up Template, a List of Massachusetts Business Organizations, and a “Ways to Get Involved Locally” Brainstorm Sheet.

In Massachusetts, local relationships are often one of a small business’s greatest assets. Chambers of commerce, downtown associations, visitor centers, nonprofit organizations, neighborhood groups, local events, and business networks can all help owners become more visible and connected.

The tools in this section are designed to help owners identify where they can get involved, how they can follow up after conversations, and how they can build stronger connections within their local and regional business communities.

Resource Directory

The Resource Directory brings together helpful tools, guidance, and support-oriented resources for small business owners across Massachusetts.

This section includes the Mass Fleet Advisor Focus Group, a Service Provider Vetting Checklist, Massachusetts State Agencies Small Businesses Should Know, A Practical Guide to Implementing AI in Your Business, The Small Business Guide to AI Tools, and State of Small Business in Massachusetts 2026.

Finding the right support can be difficult when owners are already managing the daily demands of their business. There are agencies, programs, consultants, tools, trainings, and service providers available, but knowing where to start can be challenging.

The Resource Directory is designed to make that process easier. It helps business owners better understand available resources, evaluate potential service providers, explore practical uses of AI, and stay informed about the small business landscape in Massachusetts.

Huge thanks to Mass Fleet Advisor for sponsoring this bucket.
