Introduce yourself! Who are you and what do you do at your Chamber of Commerce?
Hi! I’m Katie Greene, Vice President of Marketing and Events at One SouthCoast. I oversee all the marketing and communications for the Chamber as well as most of our events. I just celebrated three years in the chamber world and it’s been the most amazing and rewarding experience of my marketing career!
What made you want to work for the Chamber of Commerce?
As a South Coast native, it was always a dream of mine to work for the Chamber. I love travel and tourism and even though our Chamber is more focused on the business, I get to have fun working with our partners to help bring it all together. My biggest event of the year is our annual Chowderfest where we have people from all over MA and RI come to sample some of the South Coast’s best restaurants soups and chowders. I love being able to use my marketing and events background to bring such a fun event together!
What do you love the most about the area where you live in Massachusetts?
I tell people all the time who are unfamiliar with the South Coast that it’s a perfect location. We’re 15 to Providence, 45 minutes to Boston, 30 minutes to Newport and an hour from the heart of the Cape. I’m a true summer girl and I love how many beaches are so close by.
Why do you think it’s important for everyone to be a member of a Chamber of Commerce?
I think the biggest reason for being part of the Chamber is the huge network. OSC is the second largest Chamber in Massachusetts so our network is strong. I actually ended up working for the Chamber because I frequently networked at their events at my former job. I met so many amazing people and forged what I hope will be lifelong friendships.
What has been the biggest lesson you’ve learned throughout your career?
It’s okay to say no. If it’s something you don’t feel you can accommodate, avoid unnecessary stress by agreeing to it. Saying yes to everything that comes your way can easily lead to burnout. However, it’s also okay to compromise and find a fit that works for everyone.
If you weren’t in your current position, what would your next dream job be?
I love home design so I would love to be an interior decorator.
When you’re not working, what activities do you enjoy?
My husband and I have two dogs, Alfie and Georgie, and we love to do all kinds of things with them. I also enjoy hosting parties, reading, pickleball, home projects, and I’m working on golf game.
