EP 101 with Desiree Washington from October 3, 2024
Desiree Washington (Edge) is a minority interior designer who owns Designs By Des Interiors, a family based full service design firm in Mansfield, MA. After working in the lighting design field for almost 7 years after being a architecture grad at RPI (Rensselaer Polytech), she gained unique experience in the design field. She founded DBDI 2 months prior to the pandemic and her first year of motherhood which became the premise of her purpose. While she was working through her challenges in her homespace of having a newborn, while working from home full time and running her household with her husband, she knew so many other mothers were struggling with the same in their homes. By sharing her homebody lifestyle, she created a mission to help other mamas in their journeys to have a home that is not only a reflection of their best selves but a home that served as a safe haven. Fast forward 4 years later, she has been recognized nationally in competitions like Vistaprints’ Small Business Grant, invited as an expert at the RI Home Show, and featured on multiple blogs and newsletters for her expertise in the industry. When she’s not designing or running around with her kids and husband you can find her with her journal, drawing in her sketchpad, or enjoying special luxury experiences like weekend getaways or self care retreats at the spa. Desiree is passionate in being a positive example to other young girls like her who may not know much about the interior design and architecture industry in her community and is always looking for ways to give back. Coming from a military family, it became her way of life to serve and pave the way for the future.
