Introduce yourself! Who are you and what do you do?

My name is Alyse Grimm, I am a Salem resident and the creator of ThingstodoinSalem.com and SalemMAWedding.com. I have one foot in media, marketing and tourism and the other in weddings and events. On the media/marketing side of my business I do content creation, social media, consultations and work with local businesses in Salem as well as along the north shore. On the weddings and events side of my business I offer photography services, officiation and planning services. I have over 200 weddings of experience under my belt at this point and love helping folks out on their big day.

What made you want to start your business?

I started all of my platforms and websites out of love for Salem, MA. I fell in love with Salem the first time I ever visited and wanted to help others enjoy all that the witch city has to offer.

What do you love the most about owning a business in Massachusetts?

I love that I get to work with so many diverse business owners in the area – it keeps things fresh and interesting. I also love that I get to help folks plan their visit here and see the city the way that I do. One of my favorite things is when tourists reach out to me afterwards or tag me in their social media posts showing me what they did while visiting us. It makes me smile every time.

What are your favorite small businesses to support in Massachusetts?

All of the businesses in Salem, Hammond Castle in Gloucester, Bear Skin Neck in Rockport.

What has been the biggest lesson you’ve learned throughout your career?

Consistency. Consistency will beat talent every single time. Also recognizing that feeling “ready” is an illusion. You need to just jump in and do the thing. You can make it perfect later.

If you weren’t in your current position, what would your next dream job be?

Owning and operating a wedding venue.

When you’re not working, what activities do you enjoy?

I love doing papercraft and junk journaling!
