Introduce yourself! Who are you and what do you do?
I am a former technology executive and now have multiple ventures in executive staffing, digital and internet marketing, health/wellness, and professional networking. I am an avid connector and have run my own professional networking group w/ Mass Professional Networking. I am also on the Board of Directors with AMA Boston helping increase awareness of AMA via events.
What made you want to start your business?
I started AIMC Business Solutions over sixteen years ago since I was inspired by all of the entrepreneurs I met and learned how the sky is the limit when you control your own domain. I got into executive staffing a few years ago after a long career in technology management taking my business domain knowledge and large professional network to help organizations find talent to help achieve their business goals.
What do you love the most about owning a business in Massachusetts?
I love owning my own business since I can control my financial destiny, invest my time versus spending time making someone else successful. Owning my own business allows me to do what I love which is professional networking and meeting and connecting others. Massachusetts is the epicenter of innovation and knowledge. We have some of the most world-renowned universities here and it is amazing to network with so many smart professionals.
What are your favorite small businesses to support in Massachusetts?
I meet so many small businesses from my networking group Mass Professional Networking and appreciate the ambition of the small business owner. I would like to mention Ashley Mason of Dash of Social. She is so inspiring for young female entrepreneurs to pursue their dream. I generally prefer the small business you find in a downtown area. In Framingham, that would include Fres Cafe and Bella Coste Restaurant. They both have been around for years and catering to the local community.
What has been the biggest lesson you’ve learned throughout your career?
The biggest lesson I have learned is perseverance. As a recruiter and as a business owner, you are going to face rejection and simply a bad day here and there. It is how you recover and move on that determines your fate. Another lesson I learned is to always be networking. Even if you got that dream job or dream client, network more than ever and never stop.
If you weren’t in your current position, what would your next dream job be?
When I was a kid, I wanted to be a meteorologist, but of course I ended up going to school for computer engineering. Now that I have been through a career, my next dream job is to go on a speaking circuit and educate professionals on professional networking and branding yourself. Of course, there is always the dream of being a guitar player, but I think I need to practice more.
When you’re not working, what activities do you enjoy?
I am a fitness nut, so I still strength train at the gym. I also love music, so whether I am playing it or going to a concert, it is something I enjoy. I also love doing day trips with my wife Heather. We are so lucky in New England to have so many options to enjoy.
