Introduce yourself! Who are you and what do you do?

Hi! I’m Tara Bodine. I am the CEO of True North People Consulting, a Fractional Human Resources Consultant, and a passionate advocate for small businesses. I’m also a mom of three sons and an enthusiastic black lab living in Andover, MA.

True North People Consulting offers on demand, fractional HR expertise for small businesses. With us, small businesses have access to 20 years of HR expertise without the cost of hiring a full-time HR team. We navigate the complexities of HR and people management so business owners can focus on running the business.

We cater to small businesses with 30 or fewer employees, providing affordable solutions tailored to the business needs. As the business grows, so does our support.

What made you want to start your business?

I fundamentally believe in the transformative power of positive work experiences on business success. After 20+ years of working in corporate America, I knew that I wanted to support small businesses, the heart of Main Street, USA and empower business owners to not have to choose business decisions over people.

The True North philosophy anchors around compassionate leadership, building authentic team connections, and fostering a sense of belonging. This approach leads to engaged, productive employees who fuel outstanding business results.

Beyond the bottom line, I recognize the vital role of strong, supported small businesses in building vibrant communities. This is the driving force behind True North People Consulting’s mission: to empower and support small business success and foster thriving families and communities.

What do you love the most about owning a business in Massachusetts?

I am originally from the New Jersey shore and, while that will always be a special place for me, I love living and owning a business in MA. I am surrounded by smart, innovative people and it drives me to challenge myself and continue to learn.

What are your favorite small businesses to support in Massachusetts?

I primarily support businesses that have 30 or less employees. The business owner started their business because they love what they do, and now they have to manage a small staff of employees and this can be time consuming, confusing, and challenging.

What has been the biggest lesson you’ve learned throughout your career?

Understand what your values are and connect with personal and professional experiences that align with those values. Also, trust your intuition.

If you weren’t in your current position, what would your next dream job be?

A travel blogger. I want to see the world, meet people, and taste all of the unique food.

When you’re not working, what activities do you enjoy?

I spend my free time with my husband and sons on the sidelines of many sports and in Wells, ME, our happy place.

Thank you for sharing more about yourself! Tell us how we can get in touch with you or find you online.
