Introduce yourself! Who are you and what do you do at your Chamber of Commerce?

My name is Alexandria Eberhardt, and I’m the President & CEO of the Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce!

What made you want to work for the Chamber of Commerce?

My background is in non-profit and state workforce development and ecosystem building. I believe Chambers of Commerce are essential for their local, regional, and statewide economic growth. Therefore, when the opportunity in Haverhill arose to help be a part of the exponential change and growth potential in the Merrimack Valley region, I reached out.

What do you love the most about the area where you live in Massachusetts?

There is immense potential for the region. If the correct partnerships are built, the region has the opportunity to be a major economic and business hub north of Boston.

Why do you think it’s important for everyone to be a member of a Chamber of Commerce?

Every Chamber is different. Some focus on community events such as holiday fairs, summer concert series, while providing mainly networking opportunities and small business support. Larger city Chambers such as ours, and some regional chambers really focus on driving economic development and growth to the areas we serve. I truly believe you need aspects from different chambers. I encourage every entrepreneur, business owner, and community organization to join a few Chambers. Building your network, resource base, and supporting the organizations that help move your business and region forward is important!

What has been the biggest lesson you’ve learned throughout your career?

You will not make everyone happy and some people don’t like change. That said, once you find the correct people and organizations to partner with to move economic development forward, the opportunities to move your cities and regions forward for the current and future generations gets easier.

If you weren’t in your current position, what would your next dream job be?

Still working in a position that helps build opportunities to watch others succeed. I am an educator by trade, so I love being a part of an organization that builds and helps others reach their potential.

When you’re not working, what activities do you enjoy?

I have played sports my entire life, so I am a part of multiple sports teams who play locally and travel both domestically and internationally for tournaments. I also love musical theater and the arts, so I am often seen at theaters, opera houses, and any other performing arts arenas in New England.
