Introduce yourself! Who are you and what do you do at your Chamber of Commerce?
I’m Laura O’Neill, the Executive Director and sole employee of the Chamber. Working with our Board of Directors I undertake the programming, membership and outreach of the Medford Chamber of Commerce.
What made you want to work for the Chamber of Commerce?
I grew up in Medford and am a proud graduate of Medford High School. After college, I lived and worked in Chicago and New York City as an attorney. When I returned to the workforce, I wanted to draw on the skills I developed in my legal career while also incorporating my experience in nonprofit event planning. Chamber management offers the ideal balance of business strategy and creative execution, with marketing, publicity, and social media serving as essential tools for advancing local businesses and fostering community connections.
What do you love the most about the area where you live in Massachusetts?
Even when I didn’t live in Medford, I was drawn back by its food scene, which offers an impressive range of cuisines, all created by locally owned establishments. From neighborhood bars and restaurants to theater and the arts, there is always something happening. Now, through my work and relationships with local business owners across a wide range of industries, I see even more clearly that what truly defines Medford is its strong sense of community and the people behind its businesses.
Why do you think it’s important for everyone to be a member of a Chamber of Commerce?
Each business gains something different from the Chamber but the result is the same – a stronger business community. If you want to shape the future of Medford you need to be a part of the Chamber.
What has been the biggest lesson you’ve learned throughout your career?
Don’t be afraid to try something new.
If you weren’t in your current position, what would your next dream job be?
Either working for the Boston Bruins Foundation or owning a thrift store.
When you’re not working, what activities do you enjoy?
Running, Swimming and Mahjong

Laura is a great cheerleader for the Medford business community. As an employee of a different Chamber, I have seen how hard she works and how much she is like and respected by her members.
I worked with Laura in our shared non-profit for years. To say that she is a powerhouse is an understatement! She is creative and bright. Further, her can-do attitude makes her excellent in all that she manages! I know Medford realizes the strength in her leadership and I’m thrilled that she has found a role that truly suits her!
