Introduce yourself! Who are you and what do you do at your Chamber of Commerce?

I’m Laurie Solomon, Executive Assistant with the Marshfield Chamber of Commerce. I help support our Board of Directors and our membership.

What made you want to work for the Chamber of Commerce?

When I interviewed for this job, I was very much interested in the diversity of tasks that make up this position. I also like that the Chamber has a location at Work Local where I can be among other people – I am NOT a person who likes to work from home!

What do you love the most about the area where you live in Massachusetts?

Me and my husband have lived in Pembroke for 30 years! This area has certainly changed since we came to live here. I have always loved living by the ocean and having the ability to enjoy the coastline. Love the South Shore and living in a small community.

Why do you think it’s important for everyone to be a member of a Chamber of Commerce?

Being a member of the Marshfield Chamber of Commerce can offer your business visibility, credibility, and support. The chamber can be a great marketing resource for your company via avenues like its newsletters, website, social media, and more. In addition to networking events, the chamber often holds events, such as breakfast meetings and after-hours meetings. We encourage our members to join as many events as possible to get the most out of their membership. It’s all about making connections!

What has been the biggest lesson you’ve learned throughout your career?

The biggest lesson I have learned is that you can’t make everyone happy, you just have to do the best you can. There is a difficult balance to strike between being ambitious and being too hard on yourself – I am my worst critic. I have tried to learn to not take things personally but this is an ongoing trial for me!

If you weren’t in your current position, what would your next dream job be?

My dream job would be to help rescue animals – of all kinds – hopefully someday I’ll be rich enough to support this dream!

When you’re not working, what activities do you enjoy?

I enjoy my volunteer work at the Standish Humane Society located in Duxbury – I have been volunteering on and off here for over 30 years. This is an incredible organization and I love supporting their mission! We have adopted our cats from here over the years and we have been blessed! My husband and I enjoy vacationing in Walt Disney World every year – yes grownups can and do enjoy the happiest place on earth – it’s all about your attitude!

Thank you for sharing more about yourself! Tell us how we can get in touch with your Chamber of Commerce or find it online.
