Introduce yourself! Who are you and what do you do at your Chamber of Commerce?
Hi! I’m Stephanie Viva, Executive Director of the Mashpee Chamber of Commerce. I work alongside our board, members, and community partners to support local businesses, strengthen economic development, and create meaningful connections across Mashpee. My role blends strategy, advocacy, marketing, and a lot of relationship-building-everything from business promotion and events to workforce development, food security initiatives, and helping Mashpee continue to grow!
What made you want to work for the Chamber of Commerce?
I was serving on the board when the position needed to be filled. I was encouraged by the outgoing director as I never thought to do this work before. After years as an entrepreneur, small business advocate, and nonprofit leader, working for the Chamber felt like a natural extension of that passion. The Chamber sits at the intersection of business, community, and local government- and I wanted to be in a role where I could help elevate local voices, create opportunity, and make a tangible impact on the place I call home.
What do you love the most about the area where you live in Massachusetts?
It sometimes feels like a Hallmark Movie; Mashpee has heart. It’s a place where people genuinely care about one another, where local businesses support each other, and where tradition and innovation coexist. I love that we’re a coastal community with deep roots, a growing year-round population, and an incredible mix of small businesses, creatives, and community leaders who want to see Mashpee thrive- not just in the summer, but all year long.
Why do you think it’s important for everyone to be a member of a Chamber of Commerce?
The Chamber is more than networking- it’s collective impact. When businesses come together, their voices are stronger, their resources go further, and the entire community benefits. Membership means advocacy, visibility, connection, and support. It’s about investing in the local economy you rely on and helping shape the future of your town alongside others who care just as deeply.
What has been the biggest lesson you’ve learned throughout your career?
Relationships matter more than anything. Success isn’t just about ideas or execution, it’s about trust, communication, and showing up consistently. I’ve learned that listening, being adaptable, and leading with empathy can move even the most complex initiatives forward.
If you weren’t in your current position, what would your next dream job be?
I’d still want to be building community! Whether that’s through media, storytelling, or launching initiatives that connect people in meaningful ways. Hosting conversations, creating platforms for local voices, and helping people feel seen and supported has always been at the core of my work. I currently run a couple of Farmers Markets on the village green- I don’t have to dream; it doesn’t get more idyllic than that!
When you’re not working, what activities do you enjoy?
You’ll usually find me at a local event, market, or community gathering-because honestly, that’s where I recharge. I love live music, spending time by the water, supporting local businesses, and finding small moments of joy with family and friends.
