Patrick M. O’Connor has served as the State Senator for the 1st Plymouth and Norfolk district since 2016. Born and raised in Weymouth, he graduated from the Weymouth Public Schools and went on to attend Kingston University in London, studying politics and economics. Upon returning to the South Shore after graduation, Patrick was elected to the Weymouth Town Council in 2005 and became the Town Council President in 2014. From 2008-15, he served as legislative director to State Senator Bob Hedlund and ran for State Senate following Hedlund’s election as mayor of Weymouth.

The most substantial reasons that Patrick has for going into a career in public service and dedicating his life to the betterment of his community are to support and prioritize fighting the opioid epidemic, protect the vulnerable, ensure public safety, preserve the environment, strengthen the economy, invest in education, and secure record local aid. Patrick has worked tirelessly alongside fellow lawmakers, constituents, and lobbyists to ensure that he is doing the most that he can to better livelihood on the South Shore through his actions and support.

As a lifelong resident and now State Senator representing the South Shore, supporting. and recognizing local businesses throughout the district has been of the utmost importance to Patrick. Over the years he has made a point to celebrate small businesses throughout the district as an important driver for both state and national economic growth.
