Matt Abramovitz joined NEPM as president in 2022, building on a long, successful career in media and broadcasting.

His more than three decades in media started at the renowned jazz station WBGO in Newark, New Jersey. He later joined Sirius Satellite Radio, where he was a member of the original music team that launched the service. He spent more than 12 years with New York Public Radio, helping to establish WQXR as a public classical station and serving as its head of programming.

At WQXR, Matt helped grow the station’s audience and membership base; developed new digital content; diversified its programming; produced live events series; and established innovative partnerships with an array of community organizations and distinguished cultural institutions, including the collaboration with the Metropolitan Opera that produced the critically-acclaimed podcast, “Aria Code.”

During his time at NEPM, Matt has brought a renewed energy to serving all of western Massachusetts. Under his leadership, the station moved into its new Springfield headquarters, launched separate news/talk and music radio services, and focused on elevating the unique voices and stories of the region with shows like The Fabulous 413 and The Rundown with Carrie Saldo.

Abramovitz holds degrees from Wesleyan University and Cornell University. He currently lives with his wife, children, dog and gecko in a cohousing community in western Massachusetts.
